Jakarta, 7 July 2019— Startup Academy Camp 1 has been held on Saturday and Sunday (6-7 July 2018) at GO-JEK HQ, Pasaraya Blok M. At this first camp, the participants were given various material to help them deepen their knowledge on how to build a startup.
First day of Startup Academy Camp 1
This Startup Academy Camp was opened with a warm welcome from the Project Officer of COMPFEST, Fadhlan Hafizh, and the Person in Charge of this year’s Startup Academy, Faishal Ammar.
After their initial introduction by each team, the first session begins with the giving of material “Lesson Learned” by the CEO of Skydu and Paytren Academy, Mr. Andika Amri. He told the participants his own experience when he first made his own startup, where he suffered various inconveniences and many failures.
“When we run our own startup, as the time continues, we will experience many obstacles, and to overcome those obstacles, we have to be committed by remembering our startup’s ‘why’, why did we build our startup in the first place and how we can help the people with our startup” said Mr. Andika when we interviewed him after the first session.
The next session was filled in by the COO of DailySocial.id, Mr. Arif Hardiyanto who gave the “Lean Startup” material. Different from Mr. Andika who gave his material by telling his own experience, Mr. Arif completely taught the participants about Lean Startup from the beginning to end.
After the break, in the third session, the participants were accompanied by the Co-Founder of META Innovation Lab, Ms. Solita Tiolina. At this session, the material given was the continuity from the last which is “Lean Canvas”, where the participants besides getting the usual learning experience, was also presented their own idea of their startup and made their own Lean Canvas under the teaching of Ms. Solita.
Ms. Solita then explained that Indonesia still needed a lot of innovation because many of Indonesians have the idea worthy for a startup, but too afraid to try making it into a reality. “I am very happy to be able to see and help constructing these fresh ideas of Startup Academy Participants,” said Mrs. Solita.
“The participants made their startup innovation by relating the everyday life problems and then confirmed it as early as possible” continued by Ms. Solita when being asked about her opinion on the participant’s ideas.
After all of the learning session has been delivered, the last activity for the first day was a mentoring session for each group of participants. Guided by some experienced C-Level mentors, the participants discussed their startup projects to their own mentor.
Second Day of Startup Academy Camp 1
The second day begins with the material given by the Founder and CEO of Inagri, Mr. Shiddiq Azis who explained about Validation in the startup. However, different than before, the participants were learning while making their own Javelin Board under the teaching of Mr. Shiddiq rather than just listening to the speaker.
Following the first session, the second session was filled by the Co-Founder and CEO of kata.ai, who gave the material “Minimum Viable Product” before the break.
The last learning session was closed by the Founder and CEO of Phiniship, Mr. Julio, who taught the participants about “User Experience” as a supplement for the upcoming GOTB session (Get Out of The Building).
At the Get Out of the Building session, the participants accompanied by COMPFEST’s liaison officer to explore Pasaraya Blok M to validate their own idea by interviewing their candidate customer accordingly to their market. The participants were given freedom to do the interview wherever they want as long as their given time.
After the last break, the participants were back doing the mentoring session as their last activity for the first camp. The camp ended with a closing ceremony and the returning of the participants back to their place.
