Software Engineering Academy: Camp 3

Software Engineering Camp 3 was completed on Saturday and Sunday (17-18 August 2019) at GO-JEK headquarters, Pasaraya Blok M. In this third camp, participants were given some additional material and ended with a presentation project that was created during the academy.

Software Engineering Camp 3 – Day 1

The first day began with a panel session: Personal Development as a Young Engineer by Rizky Abdillah (Vice President of LOKET Technology), Ginting (GO-JEK Product Engineer), Vincentius (GO-JEK Product Engineer). In this session, the mentors shared their experiences and a lot of things about becoming a software engineer. They also said that to become programmers, not only focus on one thing but have to be more flexible, such as understanding new programming languages or new frameworks.

The next session was a workshop: Learning How to Study delivered by Rizki Oceano (Program Manager at GO-ACADEMY). He divided the participants into groups to be given specific tasks, where the main goal of this activity is learning which is an active process to increase knowledge through 3 processes: namely making strategies, learning processes, and evaluating. After that, the program continued with the workshop: How to receive and provide feedback also delivered by Rizki Oceano. At this time he asked participants to make favorite animals that would be criticized by the participants in the form of feedback and constructive. Camp 3 day one was closed with the GO-JEK Product Showcase by Rizky Abdillah and Ginting. They introduced products released by GO-JEK  that can be used in our daily lives.

We are also allowed to interview Rizky Abdillah, Ginting, Vincentius. They said that becoming a software engineer is not easy but the challenges faced make us have more spirit to be better, and also if we can produce a product that can make people’s life easier, that value will be our pride to be able to survive in the future. They also said that COMPFEST is a cool event that can be made as a basis for them to test people’s IT skills.

Software Engineering Camp 3 – Day 2

On the second day the participants presented their final project to judges Andi Pangeran (Backend Engineer on GoPay), Ahmad Kamil Almasyhur (Product Engineer at GoLife), Andri Ginting (Product Engineer at GoLife), Rizki Maulana Akbar (Product Engineer at GoJek), Anwar Hidayat (BI Core-Data Engineer at GoJek), and Muhammad Abduh (Product Engineer Growth at GoJek). On the last day, the Software Engineer Academy also announced the best team won by Charlie group (Michael Susanto, Syahrul Findi, Muhammad Hendry Prasetya, and Raka Hadhyana) with the SEA pay project and the best participant won by Dipta Laksamana.

The second day ended with a Bean Bag Session guided by Rizki Oceano. This session was about questions and answers between participants, mentors, and the committee. The questions in this session mostly about how to have good public speaking skills. After that, we also were allowed to interview Rizki Oceano. He said that Software Academy focused more on soft-skills which were seen in several sessions such as the blog showcase and speaking drill.  He also advised COMPFEST must continue to maintain the Academy because the Academy is not about the competitive spirit but also collaboration, enthusiasm for learning, and cooperation. In this way, the Academy of COMPFEST has finally reached its end.
