Posted on August 7, 2019

Software Engineering Academy Camp 2 was held last weekend on August 3 and 4, at Gojek Head Quarter, Pasaraya Blok M.

At SEA Camp 2 participants learned furthermore about software engineering, such as HTTP Server, Microservice, dan DevOps from experienced mentors in that field.

Software Engineering Academy Camp 2 – Day 1

The first day of Camp 2 begins with Blog and Code Showcase for 30 minutes, in GO-LEARN Auditorium Room. In this session, participants are doing a short presentation about their blogs or code. One of the participants named Sulthan Alam, present his blog on this session. He talks about the Second Account Phenomenon in his blog. According to Sulthan’s opinion, the second account phenomenon occurred because people segment their audience on several contents. Before the other session continues, coffee break session held at first.

The next session is Project Overview and Demo Session by Andi Pangeran (Backend Engineer GOPAY and Muhammad Abduh (Product Engineer Growth GOJEK) as mentors. Participants are invited to get the materials, while directly involving their project. The session continued by speaking drill session, to understand the importance of good communication in the software engineering discipline. After that, the lesson about HTTP Server is given for 60 minutes by Andi Pangeran and Muhammad Abduh. In the third session, Monolithic and Microservice material were given to participants by the same mentors. This session explains about migration process from a monolithic system to the microservices environment. Microservices are highlighted because of the matter. It helps developers in terms of maintenance and service development. The closing of the first day is a quiz. All the content of the quiz covers all the material that learned today, such as Project Overview, HTTP Server, and Monolithic & Microservice.

At the end of the day, we interviewed Muhammad Abduh, Product Engineer Growth at GOJEK and also the mentor. In his opinion, the most important points as being a software engineer or product engineer are being accurate and keeping eyes on what’s happening. For him, IT event such as COMPFEST helps the society to get more awareness of technology and do provides facility people that passioned in IT.

Software Engineering Academy Camp 2 – Day 2

Just like the first day, the first session on the second day is Blog and Code Showcase for 30 minutes, in GO-LEARN auditorium. In this session, participants are doing a short presentation about their blogs or code. One of the participants named Dipta Laksmana, present his code on Code Showcase. Dipta presents his SEA-Pay project, he presents about the features and the UI that he created for the project. The second session is titled Baby Step to DevOps Session, presented by Rizki Maulana as the Product Engineer at GOJEK. At this session, participants are given some basic knowledge about DevOps, that intended to build an agile relationship between engineer and operator. After that, the coffee break session held before the other session continues.

Upcoming next is Hands-On Session about readme, pipeline, and CI. This session presented by Johanes Alexander & Rizki Maulana as the Product Engineer at GOJEK. According to the speakers’ lesson, readme is vital, because everyone has their different perspective. Same thing as the first day, speaking drill session held after Hands-On Session. After that, participants attend the Ask Me Everything Session, given by the same speakers. In this session, all participants could ask their doubt or question in software engineer scope to the speakers. Before the next session, we used our opportunity to interview one of the speakers, Johanes Alexander. For him, software engineers need to have a costumer-oriented mind in order to give create a product that gives more impact to the society. In his opinion, COMPFEST would likely introduce more about technology awareness to society. The last session of the day is about Docker and 12 Factor Apps.

At the end of Camp 2, we interviewed one of the participants, Yudit Yudiarto. He says that he feels pleased to be a participant of the event because it gave more knowledge and experiences that he wouldn’t get at the college. Hands-On Session is his favorite, because in that session participants may apply the insights directly at that time. “I expect that COMPFEST held this event routinely because people could get more knowledge by this event,” Yudit says.
