Seminar : How A Great Startup was Made

On Saturday September 28, 2018 was the end of the COMPFEST event, the first day of the Main Event held at Balairung Universitas Indonesia. The event began with a few remarks and continued with the first seminar with the theme “How A Great Startup was Made”. The seminar began with the introduction of the moderator, Fauzan Helmi Sudaryanto as Product Manager of LINE Indonesia. Next is the introduction of speakers who will present the seminar this time namely Darrick Rochili as Chief Innovation Officer at Dana, Rama Mamuaya as Chief Executive Officer at Dailysocial and Iki Sari Dewi as Head of 4 wheels at Grab.

The seminar began with Darrick who discussed “Experience In The Startup Life”. He discussed about why he chose startup and why startup is needed. In addition, he also gave tips and tricks to the participants to be able to successfully build a startup, namely by trying to find a problem and try to find a solution, utilize technology, find like-minded partners in order to support each other and make the journey easier, and enjoy new challenges.

The seminar was then continued by Rama who discussed “Indonesia Technology Startups Landscape and Trends”. He showed and explained the battle of startups that used in Indonesia, ranging from e-Commerce, financial technology (fintech), Online Travel Agency, and ride-sharing. According to him, the challenges faced by startups are caused by several factors, namely regulation hurdles and readiness, talent shortages, and funding gaps. According to the experience of Rama who is now the CEO of a startup, the challenges he got were quite extraordinary, but in the end it all paid off by extraordinary and valuable achievements and rewards.

The last seminar was delivered by Iki, who discussed “How to Run a Successful Startup: Going Beyond Decacorn”. If Unicorn is a term for startup companies that have a valuation of US $ 1 billion (Rp. 14 trillion), then Decacorn is above that which is a company with a valuation of US $ 10 billion. Kak Iki gave some tips and tricks to the participants, including focusing on customers and stakeholders, ensuring a good work culture, and working and sharing with others. (EDM / Edina)
