Online Shopping Without Hesitation
Posted on August 28, 2019

Lack of free time and traffic jams, certainly makes someone lazy to go shopping. The presence of an online shop that offers convenience in shopping is suddenly in demand by the wider community, especially the prices offered there are relatively lower than in shopping centers. However, nothing is perfect, many online shop users are not satisfied with the products they buy. This is because the real form of the product does not match the picture given or the color and material are of poor quality.

In response to consumer complaints, many companies have begun to use technology as a key to overcoming the problem. The role of augmented reality technology is what really influences shopping behavior. As written on the COMPFEST blog a few weeks ago, Augmented Reality combines images and computer-based scenes to present a unified world view. With the help of this technology, consumers can see more tangible products. This makes users buy the products they need without having to worry anymore.

Just as in buying shoes, users certainly need to try whether the shoes they want to buy are suitable for them. For example, one of the well-known brands, Lacoste, through the LCST Lacoste AR application, allows users to try on shoes like the picture above – using augmented reality. With this application, it is expected to reduce consumer concerns in buying shoes online.

Generally, for women, makeup is important. However, it often happens that the shade chosen is not suitable or as desired. With a busy schedule, a woman does not have time to go to try on makeup and go shopping to meet their needs. This makes several well-known beauty brands and online shops selling beauty brands utilize technology in the form of a beauty-cam with augmented reality technology.

Beauty-cam technology is one of the booming features of Shopee. It is used as a tester for products such as L’Oréal, Maybelline, and NYX. There, we can try variants of the lipstick with various colors without having to travel to find which tester is suitable. Not only Shopee, but the Sephora online store has also used augmented reality technology to try variants of beauty products. For example, in choosing a shade foundation or lipstick, consumers just try it through the camera and find out the shade that suits them. The current augmented reality feature allows users to upload selfies to try various products that can be purchased from Sephora, but the new update will allow users to see themselves moving in real-time with digital makeup, with more effective technology.

In addition to fashion and beauty, there is also Ikea, a well-known furniture brand that utilizes augmented reality technology to make it easy for customers to choose the right product for their home or space. Customers use Ikea Place, one of the first applications to adopt Apple’s ARKit technology, to place company furniture wherever they imagine it in their homes. At Ikea Place, customers can view 3-D rendering from a different angle of more than 2,000 products before ordering what they want on the application, which directs to the Ikea website to complete a purchase.

With the development of this augmented reality technology, it is hoped that online shop users can easily filter and choose the items they want to buy without hesitation.
