Innovative App Competition Final Round

Innovative App Competition COMPFEST has 71 teams registered in the student category and 39 teams in the public category. After a long process, five best teams in each category were selected to go to the final round which was completed on Saturday and Sunday (7-8 September 2019) at the Faculty of Computer Science, Universitas Indonesia.

Innovative App Competition – Day One

The first day began with Keynote Speech Mentor by Amalia Mardhia Ersa (UI / UX Enthusiast), Aria Alifie Nurfikry (Head of Marketing & Communications), Ahmad Firdaus (CEO of Ecomindo), Dian Noeh Abubakar (Founder, CEO & Inclusion Driver of KVB), and Nathania (Android Squad Lead at Tokopedia). In this session, the mentors gave material about the basics that need to be known to become UI / UX design engineer, marketing, scalability: microservices architecture, business: fund startup and app performance. After that, the event continued with a semi-private mentoring session. In this session, participants will be divided into several groups mentored by a mentor. In this mentoring session, the topics discussed are adjusted to the background and professional skills of each mentor.

After the event, we were allowed to interview one of the Innovative App Competition mentors, Amalia Mardhia Ersa. According to her the design in an application is very important, but consider also the problem that you want solved, because the design can adjust to the needs. She also said her that the IAC participants had a passion for innovation.

Innovative App Competition – Day Two

The second day of IAC participants was asked to present their project. In the final IAC public category, there are Tata Sekolah (TataForum), Adik Iki (One Medical Chain), AvicennaApps (Mataku), Recehanku and Bearcats (Tamago). Student categories are RITERA (Suluhsuar), The Adem Team (Adem), Doa Ibuk (GrabYourTrash), Matrash, dan AMCC-Smartedu (Me-Learn).

One of the teams of IAC, the Tamago team, with the Bearcats application, brought a chicken piggy bank to be used as their application mascot. Their application is a piggy bank application for children. They also said that this application came from Indonesia and could be used as an identity for us.

“The experience was fun, we were given a mentor and can learn from them. We are also directed in creating this application. And we hope that the Innovative app always exists as a branch of the competition category in COMPFEST,” they said when asked about their experience in participating in COMPFEST.

One of the judges from the Innovative App Competition, Rico Harisin also (Engineering Manager-Android at Tokopedia) allowed us to be interviewed. In this interview, he said that he was very excited to be one of the judges because he can see the innovations of the participants directly. He is also amazed by the participants because they were very creative and can make something that could be used by the community. He also hoped that the participants would become the next generation who would be able to make Indonesian-made technology more advanced.

After that, the event continued with Awarding Night in the evening as an appreciation for the winners of the COMPFEST competitions. The Innovative App Competition was won by the Recehanku application in the public category and The Adem Team in the student category.

“It feels good but I don’t think of winning or losing because I still get experience here. The experience I gained was feedback between participants and mentors who were able to help us develop further applications, ” said one of IAC winner when asked about their feelings of being the winner of IAC COMPFEST this year.
